1. SAW

A saw is a basic cutting tool that every woodworker must have. For beginners who want to try and don't want to invest much, you can start with a "hand saw," such as a crosscut saw or a Japanese saw for small woodworking projects. But if you have a bigger budget, you might consider buying a jigsaw, which will make cutting wood easier and faster.

2. Measuring Tools

Measuring tools are used to measure distances and mark positions on wooden workpieces. They can be used to check width, length, height, and thickness. They are available in both imperial and metric systems, or both. You can choose the one you are comfortable with.

No woodworking project can be perfectly sized without measuring tools. It wouldn't be good if you made a chair and the legs were not the same length. The measuring tool we definitely recommend is a "tape measure" because it can be used for both small and large projects, such as tables and chairs.

3. Square

A square is a tool used for making corners in wood. The most common angle used is 90 degrees. A square makes woodworking easier and helps to make the work much neater. There are various types of squares to choose from, such as the L-shaped square that can only measure 90-degree angles, and the triangular square that can also measure other angles, allowing you to make corners at unusual angles.

4. Wood Fastening Tools

Wood fastening tools are used to fasten pieces of wood together. They are very necessary because without them, you wouldn't be able to make any wooden workpieces. There are actually many types, such as nails and a hammer, a drill and screws, and a nail gun. But we would like to recommend using an electric drill because it is much easier to use. If you drill incorrectly, you can easily reverse it out. You can choose the length of the screw as you need, whether it's for a small or large project. An electric drill is also very versatile and can be used for more than just woodworking. It's very multi-purpose, so buying one is a great investment.

A little secret for drilling wood without it splitting is to use a small drill bit to drill a pilot hole before driving in the actual screw to fasten the wood.

5. Clamp

A clamp is used to hold wooden workpieces together to make them easier to work on. Clamps are very versatile tools that can be used to hold almost anything, such as holding a wooden workpiece before drilling to make the drilling more stable and accurate, holding workpieces together while waiting for glue to dry, or even holding wood with a square to make it easier to cut with a circular saw. Clamps are a must-have tool. Not only do they make woodworking easier, but they also help to make our work safer.

6. Chisel

A chisel is a tool used to plane, decorate, and scrape the face or edge of the wood to make it smooth. There are also chisels that are specifically used for making grooves and mortises. For example, if we are going to make a rabbet joint, a chisel is necessary to scrape and smooth the groove and remove any excess wood. Chisels are inexpensive and come in many types. We recommend that you study each type and its use before buying one so that you know which one to use for your project.

7. Wood Plane

A wood plane is not really necessary for work that does not require a neat finish, but having one can make woodworking more fun and produce a neater result, especially for craft projects where it is indispensable. A wood plane can be used to plane the surface of the wood to make it smooth, level the face of the wood, and also to bevel the corners. Beginners can start with a hand plane.
